Master's Level Programs

1. Master of Business Studies  (MBS): 

The Master of Business Studies (MBS) programme requires the students to study a total of 1000 marks. Fourteen analytical and core courses (700 marks), 2 specialization courses (200 marks) and a thesis or two seminar papers (100 marks) will have to be completed.

The objective of the MBS programme is to enable the students to work as competent managers and to meet the demand of higher level managers in organizations, particularly in the functional areas of management Upon graduation, a student should be able to function as a manager in business, Industry, government and nongovernmental sector, within and outside the country, in areas like accounting, marketing, finance and general management. The MBS programme specifically aims to:

  1. Equip the students with required conceptual knowledge of business and management

  2. Prepare managers in the functional areas of management.

  3. Develop knowledge and skill of business environment in national and global perspective.

  4. Encourage entrepreneurial capabilities in students to make them effective change agents in the Nepalese society.

  5. Develop research capability in the students.

Eligibility Condition for Admission for MBS program

The student applying for admission to to MBS course must have successfully completed the BBS programme or a bachelor degree on any discipline from Tribhuvan University or from any other university recognized by Tribhuvan University

Admission Test

The Faculty of Management (FOM) shall conduct a Central Management Admission Test (CMAT) for the MBS level. Students eligible for MBS programme must sit in the CMT in order to qualify to apply for admission to the campuses offering the MBS programme. The FOM shall issue a score-sheet to each student appearing in the CMAT.

The test carries a full marks of 100 and it must be completed within 90 minutes.

Test Contents: There are 100 test items. The test covers five sections. The details of

the test are as follows:

Students must submit a CMAT Request Form to the FOM. Students must submit their application for admission to the campuses along with the score-sheet. Campuses shall prepare their admission merit list based on the CMAT score. The admission shall be strictly on a competitive basis. The applicants must enclose along with application form attested copies of: certificates/testimonials of all examinations passed; equivalence, transfer and character certificates, wherever applicable and Two passport size photographs.

Candidates selected for admission will have to produce at the time of admission original certificates/testimonials of all examination passed.

2. Master of Education  (M.Ed. in English, EPM & Math): 

Master of Education is a two-year programme offered in constitutional and affiliated campuses under FoE scattered in different parts of the country. This programme consists of professional/pedagogical core courses and specialization courses. Specialization courses include Curriculum and Evaluation, Educational Planning and Management, English Education & Mathematics Education.Students can specialize in any one of these courses. Both professional and specialization courses have been revised and implemented since 2009.

Programme Objectives

The overall objective of the M.Ed. programme is to produce higher level academic manpower such as teachers, teacher educators, educational planners and administrators, system analysts and experts in the field of education. The specific objectives of the programme are to:

  • produce qualified and competent teacher educators,

  • produce efficient educational planners, administrators, managers, supervisors and other educational experts,

  • promote innovative practices in the field of education,

  • develop educational leadership and experts that can transform the educational systems of the country.

ELIGIBILITY

Student with Bachelor’s Degree in Education are eligible for the admission to the Masters Programme. However, they need specific qualification for the admission in different subject. In semester system they have to pass entrance test for admission in different specialization subject.

3. Master of Arts  (MA in Economics, English, Sociology, Political Science, Population, Nepali
                                    & Maithili): 

The duration of a Master of Arts degree typically ranges from one to two years, depending on the course and intensity of classes. Masters of Arts degrees are offered in fields such as Languages, History, Geography, Philosophy, Fine Arts, and Social Sciences (where they intersect with Masters of Science). Depending on the educational institution, the same subject may be available as both an M.A. or an M.Sc. degree.

Most M.A. classes aim to develop students’ abilities to think critically, analyze ideas and propositions, and express their own conclusions clearly. M.A. degrees usually have a high degree of class interaction. To receive a Master of Arts degree, you need to write a thesis based on independent research during the final year.

1.  M.A. Economic : 

The MA in Economics programme is a two-year program consisting of five papers each year including one optional paper selected from among various optional papers offered. Each paper comprises 100 full marks and 40 percent pass marks. The M. A. degree in economics will be awarded to the students after successful completion of all ten papers in the annual examination conducted by the Office of the Controller of Examination, TU.

Eligibility for Admission

The students having Bachelor of Arts (B. A.) degree with majoring economics from TU or any other universities recognised by TU are eligible to apply for M. A. Programme. However, the students with mathematics, statistics and management background may also apply. Students, willing to study MA in economics at Central Department of Economics (CEDECON) are required to submit application upon receiving a call to apply from the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Application form will be available from the Administration Section of the department on payment of specified fees. Students are required to get through entrance examination organised by Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, TU in beginning of December. Generally, academic session will start from January to October each year.

2.  M.A.  English : 

English is the major international language of every discipline, its value is increasing day by day. English majors are regarded as superior thinkers and team players all over the world, who tend to achieve well-paying careers and kudos.

The M.A. English courses offer students insight into literature, language, culture, and history. Besides studying required core courses that reflect the nature of the discipline, students will have the flexibility of selecting courses from different areas such as language, literature, rhetoric and humanities. While retaining the fundamental philosophy of humanities education—cultivation of humanistic values and critical thinking—this syllabus aims at developing students‘ creative, critical, and communicative skills that they need in their academic and professional life. Focus on writing, intensive study of literary genres, emphasis on interpretive and cultural theories, and the incorporation of interdisciplinary and comparative study are some of the underlying features of the courses. The syllabus requires a participatory and inquiry-based pedagogy for effective teaching and learning.

ELIGIBILITY

Students holding a bachelor‘s degree in English from any university recognized by Tribhuvan University shall be considered eligible to apply for admission to M.A. English program. An applicant seeking admission must take Entrance Examination as required by the Dean‘s Office, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Admissions will be based strictly on merit.

3. M.A. Nepali: 

MA in Nepali course runs over two-year duration in semester-wise format. Each semester holds 16 credits and the total credit of the course is 64. The evaluation of a student is divided into two parts. Internal evaluation which holds 40% of marking and External evaluation (Board Examination) which holds the remaining 60%.

ELIGIBILITY

Students holding a bachelor‘s degree in Nepali from any university recognized by Tribhuvan University shall be considered eligible to apply for admission to the M.A. Nepali program

ADMISSION CRITERIA

An applicant seeking admission must take the Entrance Examination as required by the Dean‘s Office, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Admissions will be based strictly on merit.

4.  M.A.  Political Science, Sociology, Maithili, Population :

Tribhuvan University offers Master of Arts (MA) in Political Science, Sociology, Maithili and Population in Central Campus, Central Department of Population Studies and its constituent and affiliated colleges.

The MA courses also build upon the advanced level courses at the Master of above mentioned deciplined being introduced in 2007. 

ELIGIBILITY

Prospective students of MA in Political Science, Sociology, Population and Mithili must have Bachelor's degree in any disciplines recognized by Tribhuvan University. Students are admitted by screening through an entrance examination. 

4. M.Sc. in Mathematics 

M.Sc. Mathematics (Semester System) runs for two academic years, i.e., four semesters. The total aggregate of credit hours for the four semesters is at least 100. 

ELIGIBILITY

M.Sc Mathematics Entrance Examination 

  1. The weightage of the entrance examination will be 100 full marks, and the duration will be 2 hours. Questions are asked according to the B.Sc/BA Mathematics syllabus prescribed by the committee.
  2. The questions will be Objective or Multiple choice questions (MCQs). Each question will carry 1 (one) weightage.
  3. 35% marks must be obtained to pass the entrance examination.
